So the captivated were many people by the performance that they returned once, twice, and even three times in some case. Undoubtedly it has been one of the theatre's most popular productions, and it has given the next "dream" something to live up to.

It is A Midsummer Night's Dream, which opens on June 9, the theatre's main contribution to the jubilee celebrations. After it closes at the Northcott on July 2. It will go on tour for two weeks, to Redruth, Killerton Gardens near Exeter, Arlington Court near Barnstaple, and Taunton.

The performance will be preceded by Purcell's Fairy Queen and Mendelssohn's overture to A Midsummer Night's Dream University Music Department, played by members of the band a buffet will be served on the lawns outside the theatre during the interval.

Gareth Armstrong, who recently gave a superb performance as the narrator in the Northcotts's production of Under Milk Wood is to play Oberon.

Playing opposite him, as Titania, is a newcomer to the Northcott, Jacqueline Pearce. After training at R.A.D.A. she went to America fro three years, and has worked extensively in the theatre, in films, and on television. Most recently she completed a year in the West End.

Also new to the theatre for this production are Peter Barnes, Carol Frazer, and Rosalind Wilson. Peter Barnes is to play Quince, but when the company goes on tour he will take over the role of bottom from Garfield Morgan, who will stay behind to direct rehearsals of the theatre's next production.

Garfield Morgan is also associate director for the production, with Amanda Knott, and the director is Geoffrey Reeves.
